Young people and digital education: We inaugurate our space for reflection

    Apr 4 2025

We reflect on young people and digital education in the new space that the José Antonio Llorente Foundation has launched to discuss social challenges with the third sector, businesses, and citizens.

In this first meeting, we delve into a crucial issue: the impact of technology on young people’s mental health. This is an essential conversation at a time when the data clearly shows a need for action.

With the help of cyber-guardians.org, we looked at the main conclusions of their latest report on the issue, which perfectly portrays the context of young people in digital environments. Alex Romero, founder of the organization, presented the most revealing findings of the study, emphasizing the need for action from families, the education system, and politics.

We also heard from Dr. García Bernardo, former Head of Psychiatry at Gregorio Marañón University General Hospital, who pointed out the main causes of the harmful effects of technology on young people and discussed some guidelines for prevention and mitigation.

We were also fortunate to hear from Belén Villalva, coordinator of the Adolescencia Libre de Móviles (Mobile-Free Adolescence) platform, who conveyed the concerns that parents have regarding their children’s use of cell phones and internet connections.

The session was led by Albert Medrán, director of the Foundation, who, in addition to moderating the conversation with the guests, also explained the mission of the José Antonio Llorente Foundation to work to provide young people with training and awareness of the proper use of technology and to confirm the wide range of possibilities it offers for personal and professional development.

This meeting is just the beginning. At the Foundation, we will continue to build spaces for reflection and action, bringing companies, foundations, and citizens closer to the current challenges that require understanding, awareness, and cooperation.
